Simple Sugar Syrup
This is literally the simplest flavored syrup one can make, since it only requires two ingredients–sugar and water. This is for those who prefer a little sweetness in their cup but don’t want to overpower the taste of coffee. Preparation time is only about a few minutes.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup filtered water
Recipe:
- Put water and sugar in low heat and simmer.
- Stir the sugar until it dissolves completely.
- Once the mixture reaches a stickier consistency, remove the pan from heat.
- Allow to cool down.
- Transfer the syrup into an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator.
Vanilla Bean Syrup
Vanilla-flavored beverages are popular among coffee drinkers. However, the vanilla bean option is not always available in coffeehouses. It’s a more exotic version with the black vanilla bean seeds.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup filtered water
- 1 pod vanilla bean
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Recipe:
- Put water, sugar, and vanilla extract in a saucepan.
- Scrape the vanilla beans and place them into the mix. Toss in the pod as well.
- Set the pan over medium heat.
- Whisk until sugar dissolves and becomes stickier.
- When the mixture starts bubbling, adjust heat to low.
- Cook for another 1 to 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let the syrup cool down completely.
- Use a tong to remove the pod–but you can leave it there to get more flavor if you wish.
- Store it in an airtight jar and place it in the refrigerator.
Chocolate Syrup
If you’re a fan of mocha, you know that it’s a combination of coffee and chocolate sauce. Commercially produced chocolate syrups are pricey and usually full of preservatives and chemicals, which are very unhealthy. Fortunately, making a homemade version is pretty easy!
Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup of white sugar
- Pinch of sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup of filtered water
Recipe:
- Combine all ingredients except the vanilla extract into a pan.
- Simmer the mixture in low heat.
- Whisk until the cocoa powder and sugar are completely dissolved.
- Remove the pan from the heat once you have the ideal stickiness.
- Let the syrup cool down for a few minutes
- Add the vanilla extract.
- Transfer into an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.

- Stir the contents for about 1 to 2 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and let the pumpkin syrup cool down.
- Transfer in an airtight jar and store inside the refrigerator.
Mint Syrup
Peppermint mocha is a popular drink among those who love that sweet minty flavor. Mint syrup is composed of fresh leaves like peppermint, spearmint, and apple mint. Making it at home is a lot easier, though, as you will only be needing a peppermint tea bag to recreate the syrup.
Ingredients:
- 1 peppermint tea bag
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup filtered water
Recipe:
- Mix the water and sugar into a saucepan.
- Cut the tea bag open and add the loose leaves into the mixture.
- Put the pan in medium heat and let simmer.
- Stir the contents until sugar is dissolved completely.
- After about 2 minutes, remove from heat
- Let the syrup cool down.
- Strain the syrup to remove the loose tea leaves from the mixture.
- Transfer in an airtight jar and store inside the refrigerator.
Blackberry Syrup
If you’re a fan of iced coffee and love incorporating fruity flavors into your beverage, then you should try some blackberry syrup. Adding this ingredient into your drink will offer a juicy acidity and berry taste–overall sweet and refreshing!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of fresh blackberries
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup filtered water
Recipe:
- Toss fresh blackberries into a blender.
- Add the water and blend until it becomes a smooth puree.
- Strain the mixture over a fine mesh and discard the residues.
- Combine the blackberry juice and sugar into a saucepan.
- Put the pan in medium heat and let simmer.
- Stir the contents until sugar is dissolved completely.
- When the syrup begins bubbling, adjust the heat to low.
- After 1 to 2 minutes, remove the pan from the heat.
- Let the syrup cool down.
