My brand new machine seems to have come with scale buildup? Bought a brand new Breville Barista Express. Was flushing the machine, running water through steamer, hot water spout and group head until I emptied the entire water tank. I noticed fine white flakes in the cup I was using and figured out they were coming from the steamer wand. After about 5 rounds I saw them showing, and they seemed to have dissipated now after a few more flushes. But, what is it, could it be scale even if it's a brand new machine? Unsure if this is normal or a problem with the machine we bought.

Unfortunately where I live the water is actually quite soft so I shouldn’t be seeing mineral deposits this quickly. I have put descaler in and run it through just in case at this point though.

Sounds like you might have hard water where you live? could it be a calcium deposit build-up that is showing itself as flakes? When you flush for a while I think you get the worse flushed out. You might have to run a descaling program every now and then to keep the machine clean.
