Hey Chandra!
The term "black coffee" can stand for different beverages, depending on the particular coffee shop – so this is a great question.
The classic black coffee at Starbucks is called Caffe Americano. This is an espresso shot topped up with hot water.
Depending on the size you choose, the barista might use two or three espresso shots when making your Caffe Americano at Starbucks.
This coffee will typically have a thin crema layer on top and a rich robust flavor.
That’s not the only black coffee you can order at Starbucks though.
You can also order an espresso, which is a small concentrated beverage that is in the Americano but without the hot water diluting the coffee. So the espresso coffee has a more intense flavor.
Aside from those two, you can also order a drip coffee at Starbucks. This is prepared in a drip or percolator, rather than an espresso machine.
Things get complicated further. Starbucks usually has at least two types of coffee to choose from – the Pike Place Roast or Dark Roast, depending on the branch. The first one is the classic medium roast option and a dark roast has a more intense bitter flavor.
Which black coffee from Starbucks would you go for?
