Hi Shruti,
Well, there are many types of ethical coffee and ethical hotels that are still sustainable and help their community.
The ethics of coffee at hotels with regard to coffee varies depending on what type of hotel you are visiting and who they are using as their coffee supplier. So one way to find out if the hotel you are staying is serving ethical coffee is ask them who is their supplier and if they know details about their coffee.
A well informed hotel manager would know all about it, whilst if you just get a generic reply the staff might not be adequately educated about this. If, however, they do know about the supplier , you only need to do a bit more research to find out the supplier's practices regarding to sourcing coffee beans.
In general, ethical coffee is coffee that has been produced in a way that strives to maintain and protect the sustainability of the coffee’s farmers.
Coffee is a product that we consume on a daily basis. There is ethical, sustainable and fair coffee for those who are willing to pay for it. The beans are processed in an environmentally friendly way and giving back to the communities where these beans come from.
Any coffee importer and supplier who is interested in being ethical they would be very transparent and you should be able to read more information on their website. It all starts by talking to the hotel staff though.
