Espresso is made using twice the ground coffee, but half the water of regular coffee. A typical-sized espresso (1oz) contains 35-45 mg of caffeine per serving, while a typical cup (12oz) of brewed coffee has 95 mg. Espresso uses low pressure in comparison to regular brewed coffee with high pressure, so it extracts more flavor without significantly increasing acid content or bitterness.
