Yes! This is because of its caffeine content.
Caffeinated drinks, such as coffee or tea can make you thirsty because they have a milk diuretic effect. This means that drinking coffee makes you urinate more, which causes you to lose water.
So, inevitably, the next question is, can coffee make you dehydrated?
When you urinate, you lose water as well as sodium, and if you lose too much, you can become dehydrated.
The risk of getting dehydrated from drinking coffee is quite low, especially if you consume caffeine in moderation, around two cups a day. If you drink more than four cups of coffee per day, you may see a more significant diuretic effect.
But it is always recommended that you drink water to balance your caffeine consumption, especially in the morning.
Does coffee dehydrate me?
No. I always make sure that I drink at least two cups of water for every cup of coffee. This helps my body to stay hydrated and prevents me from feeling thirsty.
Hope that helps.
